Meeting with the TOM Visitor
By Keld Dahlmann, Senior Guardian
In October our UK Chair, Anne Maclaurin and I met with the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu. He is the Senior Visitor of TOM with the role to see that TOM is faithful to its calling and ensure that the Order is soundly led and accountable to the wider church.
We shared with excitement about the Global Gathering, the sense of a new mission journey in TOM - with our five streams of missional intentionality.
Over lunch we had conversation about going deep with Scripture and the public preaching of the Word and proclamation of the Gospel.
We came away very encouraged - Archbishop John's commitment to personal evangelism as well as mobilising others in this is both challenging and inspiring and we felt one in Spirit as we prayed together “...your Kingdom come”
We thanked the Archbishop for his willingness to serve the Order as Senior Visitor and asked him to stay in that role until he retires in two years.
The Archbishop confirmed his willingness to continue and would like to meet more leaders in TOM before he retires, so we’ll work towards gathering guardians in TOM spring 2020 with the opportunity to meet Archbishop John and hopefully have in sight a potential Senior Visitor for the future.
